E Mail Worst Practice Of The Week

I work for a radio station, and our station’s website is, well, all about our radio station.  I got the following e mail today, and I’ve got to hand it to this company for having perhaps the worst targeting EVAH. And I’m leaving their name and contact info in the e mail just because something this spammy doesn’t deserve to have the details redacted.

Hey there,

I’m reaching out to you because Thumbtack is getting a lot of job leads for lawn care providers, and I’m looking for another lawn care provider who is interested in taking on more clients.

After checking out your website I think you are a great fit for Thumbtack and I’d love to start sending you job leads. Please fill out a few details about your skills and rates, and I’ll start forwarding you potential new clients.

If you have any questions about what Thumbtack can provide, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Here’s a lesson to all you e mail marketers out there, you might actually want to look into your lead lists before spamming the world. I don’t know many radio stations that do lawn care on the side.  Of course, with the economy being what it is, I could always be wrong.

  1. Mark –

I got one asking me to take on programming “to counter the left-leaning bias of NPR.”

Uhh… let’s see: a) I’m an NPR affiliate, and b) your show “from a Christian world view” very likely has its own bias by definition.
